چکیده

Objective: To compare frequency of anastomotic leak with ligation versus preservation azygos vein in the primary repair esophageal atresia (EA) trachea-esophageal fistula (TEF) neonates. Study Design: Randomized Controlled Trial. Setting: Department Pediatric Surgery, Pakistan Institute Medical Sciences, Islamabad. Period: October 2019 to September 2020. Material & Methods: This study involved 180 neonates (1-28 days life) both genders undergoing EA TEF and dividied azygous surgery surgery. Outcome variable was post-operative leak. Results: In a total neonates, mean age 6.75±6.39 days. Majority (n=130, 72.2%) patients were aged ≤7 There 107 (59.4%) male 73 (40.6%) female The significantly lower Azygous group (6.7% vs. 20.0%; p=0.009) as compared group. Conclusion: Preservation associated among TEF.

Outcomes of thoracoscopy versus thoracotomy for esophageal atresia with tracheoesophageal fistula repair

BACKGROUND A thoracoscopic approach for repair of esophageal atresia (EA) with tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) has become a standard procedure in many pediatric surgical centers. However, whether thoracotomy or thoracoscopy offer advantages in terms of surgical outcomes is not known. METHODS To evaluate the efficacy and safety of thoracoscopic repair (TR) versus conventional open repair (COR)...

Tracheoesophageal Fistula and Esophageal Atresia

Incidence The incidence of congenital tracheoesophageal malformations in the U.S. is approximately one in every 4,500 births. In some areas of the world (i.e., Finland), the incidence may be as high as one in 2,440 births. Tracheoesophageal fistula and esophageal atresia affects males slightly more commonly than females (1.26:1). Although most cases of tracheoesophageal anomalies are sporadic, ...

Management of esophageal atresia and tracheoesophageal fistula.

We can draw several conclusions from an analysis of our series: 1. Although prematurity remains to be an important factor in the survival of infants with major surgical or medical disease, the more important risk factor in esophageal atresia and tracheoesophageal fistula concerns: a. Severity of associated anomalies that are uncorrectable and fatal b. Associated complication from the disease or...
